FFJ seeks to improve the lives of children in Sri Lanka by caring for thousands of orphans at dozens of sites and keeping hundreds of schools open for refugees and war-affected children. It is our belief that our hard work today will eventually bring joy, peace and prosperity to tens of thousands in South Asia and across the world. Through our work, we aim to lay foundations for joy.
OurWork
Sri Lanka is a vibrant, democratic island nation that has been ravaged by war, terrorism, and natural disasters. If the growth of the terrorist group that invented the suicide bombing and thirty years of war wasn't enough, the 2004 tsunami and 2010 flooding have certainly helped to strain Sri Lanka and make life difficult for children across the island. FFJ works to change this every day by caring for thousands of orphans in dozens of sites across the island as well as helping to keep over 5,000 war-affected children in local, well-supplied elementary schools in the war-torn Eastern Province. In addition, FFJ is committed to stepping up in times of crisis, as we did in 2009 after the end of one of the world's longest and bloodiest civil wars when we helped deliver aid and educational/vocational materials to thousands of refugee children trapped in IDP camps, which were so inhumane that even the United Nations was not allowed in. FFJ has served the children of South Asia since 2007 when it was founded in accordance with the vision of two teenagers, Anjali Jotwani and Jordan Sessler, in Austin, Texas. Since its inception, FFJ has grown from a small organization seeking to deliver small amounts of aid to a few orphanages in around Colombo to a major NGO serving over ten thousand orphans, refugees, and war-affected children throughout Sri Lanka.
OurProjects
FFJ is now working to keep roughly a hundred elementary schools open for refugees and war-affected children in war-torn Eastern Sri Lanka for the next four years. While the cost to us is low, the reward is higher rates of schooling, higher high school graduation rates, lower crime, and a better long-term outlook for peace.
